Thanks, Cami! I do think that the mini we got with the movie has a cuter face than some of the versions I have seen. If I remember correctly, the DVD with the mini doll was about $25 which would make the mini doll cost $10. I think that is a fair price. There have also been mini dolls on overstock.com which sometimes has free shipping.

I just checked Overstock.com and they still have the mini Felicity and mini Elizabeth dolls for $12.89 each. The shipping is only $1.40. There are also 74 listing of AG books and the art studio kits, Felicity's Paper Dolls, Coconut books, etc. They are all cheaper than the list prices.

As Michele/Michigan Mom said, whether or not people like the mini dolls seems to be very divided: you either really dislike them, or love them.
After getting my mom the old kind (back when they were first released), I can't get used to how they are now, with the Barbie-ish eyes and Barbie-ish rooted hair. (Not saying anything against Barbie--this is just for comparison purposes, since painted on eyes and rooted hair are less costly than acrylic inset eyes and kanekalon wigs.) A few years ago, I thought I was purchasing a Josefina with inset eyes and wig, and was incredibly disappointed once she arrived with painted on eyes and rooted hair. I don't like dolls with painted eyes at all, and wouldn't have gotten her if I'd known. It's too bad AG doesn't explain the dolls better in the catalog--you don't even know they have stuffed torsos (which *is* neat) until you get one!
As others have mentioned, I'd also recommend looking in a bookstore and seeing if you like them. They're one of the few items that doesn't have to be purchased through AG, and bookstores often have coupons you can use on items.

I have three minis, Felicity, Addy, and Nellie. I got Lissie and Addy a few years ago at Hallmark, and Nellie and Borders. My Barnes & Noble barely ever has them. Around the time when the Felicity movie was released, they had all of the mini dolls except for Kirsten and Josefina. Last weekend when I went back to B&N, they had one Addy and four Kayas left. I almost bought Kaya, and since I got a B&N gift card for my birthday yesterday, I'm thinking I'm going to go back and see if mini Kaya is still there . Borders only had two Nellies-the one I bought and another one. My Borders isn't very well stocked-or organized-though.
Back to the actual question. I kind of like the mini dolls. They are not AG's GREATEST product, but they aren't they worst, either. I really DO NOT recommend getting mini Nellie. It might be best to stay away from all the minis with bangs, actually. Their bangs stick straight out and it's very frustrating. I rather like my mini Addy, and Felicity is so-so. Her hair is really red, though, so that is kind of nice.
All in all, if you think your daughter would like a mini doll, I'd say go for it! Especially if you can find one at your local bookstore .

Mini Josefina does look cute. I agree that the minis without bangs look better than the ones with bangs. The bangs don't work in the mini version.

That's true about the bangs! The bangs worked fine when the dolls had wigs, though. It's the rooted hair (hair plugs) that doesn't take to bangs well, because hair plugs want to come straight out from the head; they don't sit properly when the hair isn't long enough to weigh them down.

I have Addy, and love her! It looks realy cute if the doll is sitting on her bed, holding her doll, and reading the book. I love the book as well. Here is a picture:
